(---.as43234.net) posts : 215 Date : 11-21-11 13:23 Just a few words as to the future of this site.Firstly to those who seem intent on ruining it Go Elsewhere, secondly to those who want to retain it Please Post New Topics.Personnaly I miss Gary and his wee windups also his genuine care for Bulgaria.People like June who are always helpful should stay on this site and maybe we can salvage it.I found over the years I have been going to SB that most of the answers I got were very very helpful and any newcomers to this site should have access to same information from people like June ,Manfred and lots of others,so Please keep this site running through winter and then hopefully it will pick up again as we approach season 2012. Remember this is a Bulgarian site NOT British. Finally I may not be on here much for a few weeks as I am due to have surgery but hope to return soon and with a little bit of luck be in SB in 2012. Thanks for reading this and please reply. |

(87.246.8.---) posts : 475 Date : 11-22-11 08:40 We are very lucky here in the Burgas region still quite warm at night compared to the rest of Bulgaria. Watching the weather last night on the news suprised to see Vidin only going down to -4 as this is usually the coldest part. I was talking to a friend yesterday who had just driven back from the UK and they said that they had driven through freezing fog all the way through Romania and most of Bulgaria until they got to almost Sliven, this is probably why the temps have stayed so low over most of the country. Would you believe that they are still delivering wood in our village very late this year, but no worry for us as we still have a nice stock pile that has built up over the years, and the old wood burns much better. Well its still overcast and grey and the mist has not lifted yet but the sun might and I say might come out later. |

(---.as43234.net) posts : 215 Date : 11-22-11 11:27 June thanks for that information re wood fires,I took it for granted everyone used electric/gas nowadays but good to see some old practices still exist.I can only imagine how cosy the wood fires must be as opposed to artificial fires.Hope weather stays reasonably nice for a while yet, here in Scotland still quite mild temps around 10 degrees but sun has come out as I write. |

(2.28.144.---) posts : 260 Date : 11-22-11 17:02 June, am I right in saying, the older the wood the better the fire as new wood creates problems in the chimneys with Tar and soot. still very mild here on the Sussex coast, not put any heating on yet, people in Town today in just slacks and woolie jumpers. No doubt we will have to pay for it. |

(87.246.8.---) posts : 475 Date : 11-23-11 08:36 My fingers are crossed for you to win some money, yes you are correct the older the wood the better it burns, as the new will tar up the pipes. We are using wood that is about 3 years old now, as we have about 8 cubic each year which we always have wood left so we have a stock pile. Wood three years ago for 8 cubic was about 300lv plus this year its 600lv we have seen a large increase over the past years in price. |

(---.as13285.net) posts : 362 Date : 11-23-11 19:05 hi all i envy june and all the other ex pats who live in bg in winter i love it there in the winter and like nothing more than sitting with my mates round their wood burner especially when im in enina near kazanlak. we take it for granted just flicking a switch to put the heat on dont we?i love helping to get the wood in and putting it in the stove its very theraputic somehow.i once made a fool of myself at my mates house in samokov when i stayed there for the 1st time and everything was wood the floors pannelling on floor and beautiful wardrobes and units and silly me asked if he had to go to sofia to the diy store for all the stuff he looked at me took me to the window pointed to the forest and said that is diy store.apparantly him and his grandfather chopped the trees down hauled them home and made everything by hand no diy store at that time nearby it was about 15years ago and it still looks as good today.oh happy days in bulgaria love mama carol ops the panneling was on the walls not the floors must be having a senior moment |
