Hi Nigel, we'd love to help but our first trip out to Bulgaria via road is in April, this may be too late for you to gain any info from...

We still have 2 years before we move out there permanently but wish we could do it sooner so wish you all the best and look forward to hearing how you get on!!

All the best,

Jane

Drove there last August and left a car in Shumen

Suprisingly easy really even with me being the only driver - made the trip from Accrington - Shumen in 2.5 days - stopping over at 2 hotels (Hungary & Romania)

willing to share any info i can - mail me

Good Morning,

For those who are thinking of driving to Bulgaria passing through FRANCE.

As from the 1st July it will be compulsory to carry your own breathalyser kit in
your vehicle whilst in France. Fine will be 11 Euro (£9.20), breathalyser kits will be available in
dock shops and on board ferries. This means all vehicles down to a scooter, only exemption pedal assisted bikes.

I presume that you are driving over and then staying in Bulgaria, I have always used the Serbia route as it is much quicker and the roads are very good the whole way down. If you intend to stay you will have to change your vehicle to Bulgarian number plates. You dont say which area you are moving to if you can let us know we can give you more info on the region
