(---.gotadsl.co.uk) posts : 67 Date : 09-29-08 17:19 As a frequent visitor to Bulgaria (usually on business), an apartment owner in Barcelo Royal Beach and a regular hoilday goer to Sunny Beach I think I am experienced enough to give an honest opinion of the resort. I have been to Sunny Beach with a group of friends, and also just with the girlfriend so have experienced the more lively aspects of the resort and also the more chilled spots. After my last holiday at the end of August I have come back feeling that I don't want to go back anymore. I feel no excitement about the place anymore and even before my last holiday I wasnt counting down the days, just treated it like a thing I had to do. I had a perfectly enjoyable holiday but I experienced the same small gripes that most people do and I cant be bothered going through it every year just to have a cheap drink and a suntan. Main gripes include: - going through the assault course that is commonly known as the promenade along the beach being approached by every rep outside each restaurant or people giving out flyers, then dodging bike taxis, scooters and golf carts. - being kept awake at night by loud techno music pumping out of bars all around me till 5 in the morning. - being robbed by a group of gypsy prossies as I walked home alone one night. (this was in the early days when I was with my mates and we got split up one night and I walked home alone) - The lack of courtesy from some staff or even a smile now and again even though I always tip, no matter what the service is like as I know their wages are terrible. - fruit sellers / con artists along the promenade. They are so insistent and I saw some poor sods having to pay stupid amounts of money for a bag of grapes after being basically forced to put them in their mouth. - other small gripes include the death trap roads, dirty parts of the beach, some dodgy taxi drivers and having to pay to use toilets in most bars. Don't get me wrong, I wouldnt put anyone off going there on a holiday as it is a perfectly fine place for a beach holiday including decent food, cheap drink, decent beach and good weather. Even though I adore the Barcelo royal beach and its facilities, it wont make up for the negative aspects of the rest of Sunny Beach. In the past I was one of the most positive voices for Sunny Beach and I know the country well enough to understand the poverty, crime and lack of courtesy at times, but I have come to the point where I intend to sell my apartment that was intended to be for family use for years. To everyone who enjoys the place I dont knock you for it, but I can see why there are so many negative reports and why I hear more complaints every year that I go. See ya Sunny Beach. |

(---.range81-132.btcentralplus.com) posts : 1360 Date : 09-29-08 17:52 It's a shame but I have to agree with what you write. I've only been once, but I experienced every one of your gripes [apart from the prossies]. I wouldn't hurry back. Our hotel was lovely, the beach was amazing but throw in all the gripes and it really does taint your experience of Bulgaria. |

(---.manc.cable.ntl.com) posts : 6586 Date : 09-29-08 18:18 Thanks Reggie for your honest report and must admit we have seen a change in SB in the last couple of years. Although we are going back twice next year and still love the place we did enjoy our time in Spain where my brother lives when we went to visit in August and I can see us visiting there more often in the future. Good luck with your apartment and let us know where you do decide to ge for your hols next year. |

(78.16.126.---) posts : 248 Date : 09-30-08 00:29 Honest report i feel the same way about some of spain ie the canaries(except lanzarote) , majorca and most definitely the costa del sol , i guess we all see different things at different times. I still love bulgaria though but i can see along the main strips that its getting quiet "loud" thankfully our apartment is a good 20 mins walk from the kuban alley but close enough to a few good pubs up the other side near the meridian. |

(---.lns6-c12.dsl.pol.co.uk) posts : 1837 Date : 09-30-08 02:33 Hi Reggie Totally agree with your post but I keep going back to SB to see friends that we've known for over 10 years. What I mean by that is, not a waitress here or there or a barman who gave us a free shot 3 years ago, I mean genuine BG friends, who we love dearly, who we are are contact with 12months of the year and have watched their children grow up. I wish you 'luck' with your apartment. How long have you owned it? We were in SB for the official opening of Barcelo in June last year, fantastic firework display, by the way.. We have considered buyiny an apartment for many years, but 6 years ago, we decided that it was not a good investment. WL |

(---.gotadsl.co.uk) posts : 67 Date : 09-30-08 13:46 Thanks for the comments, and I would like to point out that I have been to other parts of Bulgaria that I have enjoyed immensely. I have met wonderful people and have great memories. Unfortunately my initial love of Sunny beach and part of the reason I wanted to own an apartment there is now gone and I need to look at other places for a holiday. Its a good thing because it will open my eyes to new destinations. PS, Welsh Lady I have owned the apartment from the beginning (June 07) but bought it off plan the year before in early 06 when Sunny Beach was very appealing to me. Here's hoping I can find a Russian buyer as thats where the money is apparently |

(---.pool1.unallocated-107-0.orangehomedsl) posts : 13 Date : 10-01-08 00:17 Reggie The only problem is that even the Russians at this stage are starting by-passing BG so the only hope is if you are very lucky to sell with a loss if in a hurry. If not desperate- wait 5-10 years to get your money back. Sorry but when you bought your flat in 2006 people on the know were already getting out of the place selling out and leaving all together in the knowledge that the place is getting off rails and in the wrong direction . |

(---.btc-net.bg) posts : 42 Date : 10-02-08 00:01 Hi Reggie, I agree with everything tou have said, You are in a beautiful high class complex so I'm sure you will have no trouble in selling at your asking price. Part of the appeal of Sunny Beach for me is that it is easy and cheap to travel by bus to Ravda, Vlas and New Nessebar when you want a change. The restaurants there serve good food at much cheaper prices and even the supermarkets are cheaper also, At 1 or 1-50 leva each way it is a great way to obtain more variety. I have mixed feelings for Sunny Beach - definitely over-commercialised and excessive building seem to be springing up everywhere, even in remote places within and o/s Sunny Beach - who will buy these or will they just become a bigger eyesore! I've met a mix of honest and dishonest people but mostly honest. When I left my wallet on the seat, a local guy told me; when I left 2 items in the shop the assistant chased after me. I guess I was lucky when approached by a gaggle of prossies - it was pouring and I was hurrying for the mini-train. I ignored the taunts of are you gay? and they do fall like skittles if you push the leader hard enough. Double shame I never met you, it would have been interesting to chat and also I wanted to phone Russia but I don't speak the language. Best of luck with your sale. |

(---.pool1.Enfield-GLN3000-BAS0001.orangeh) posts : 13 Date : 10-03-08 22:32 so Reggie you have spelt the beans. Shall we take advise from an estate agent and investor in BG as a face value or shall we just ignore your comments which are plainly said full with invested interests. |
