To Do List (Tips for Crazy Summer in Bulgaria)
Before you pack up for the sea, you should definitely have at least rough idea of how you want to spend your summer holiday. Just close your eyes and think…what you would love best, what you have always wanted to do, but never had the chance…Just imagine the perfect summer holiday. Your summer: sun, sand, sea, sex, special friends, special moments….waves, fresh air, cocktails, ice tea, fun, beach volleyball, sun-sets, aqua parks, shiny complexion, smiles, massage at the beach…yachts, boat trip, ice-cream, local wine, shrimps and scallops, romance, kids with toy buckets, sandy castles…. Your Bulgarian summer: sunny beaches, golden sands, topless style, hot women, bronzed lifeguards, nice people, shopska salad, tarator, white clouds, Khan’s Tent, fire-dancers, lime trees, strange souvenirs, ancient town of Sozopol, Nessebar Mill, the castle in Balchik, never sleeping nightlife, bars, beach bars, tons of vodka, traditional music, mehanas… The list of summer words can be a long one. This is at least everything I myself would like to do this summer… Sports & Extreme: - Yacht: Weather a yacht tour, picnic on a motor boat, disco night on board or romantic dinner with candles, the Bulgarian yachts are to surprise you, so give them a try! Famous yacht ports in Bulgaria include “Dinevi” Marina in Saint Vlas resort, the port in Golden Sands, and the yacht ports in Nessebar, Sozopol and Primorsko. Marinas in Ahtopol, Tsarevo and Pomorie are under construction now. - Dive: Dip into the Black Sea waters and head straight for underwater caves (Tyulenovo and Kamen Bryag ) and reefs with colourful corals, shipwrecks, or military aircraft lying on the bottom of the sea! The best Bulgarian Diving centers are found in Arapya, Kavarna, Rusalka, Varna , Shabla and in Tsarevo. Special tours for beginners and advanced are organized. - Windsurf and Kite surf: Compete with the wind, be the God of the waves and challenge the summer holiday! Water sports centers can be found in Arapya, Sozopol -"Zlatna Ribka”, "Gradina" and "Kavaci" camping grounds. All big resorts also offer paragliding, parachuting, bungy jumping and water ski. - Canoe along Veleka River: Only for extreme adventurers, who love to live at high speed! Veleka River is situated in Strandzha National Park, near Sinomorets and Tsarevo resorts. Unique beauty and virgin nature! - Play Beach Volleyball: Everywhere with everyone! On the beach and in the sea. Make friends and muscles! Fun & Entertainment: - Visit Aquaparks: Aqualand, Action Aquapark, Aqua Paradise in Sunny Beach; aqualands in Varna, Primorsko, between Nessebar and Ravda. - Visit the Delphinarium in Varna - Walk in the sea gardens of Bourgas - Go to the water lilies or St. Ivan Island near Sozopol - Visit "Pobitite Kamani" (the stone formations) site in Varna and the Palace in Balchik - Do not miss Nessebar Mill and the ancient town of Nessebar - For unique spa experiences - mineral water procedures and mud therapies, visit St. Constantine and Elena, Albena, Sunny Day and Pomorie Or just enjoy without planning - Shop: crazy wooden souvenirs and bracelets, knitting, postcards, “lukanka” dry sausage and Bulgarian bottled red wine for home, tour guides for the other beautiful cities in Bulgaria - Have your hair and nails done: Have silver suns and flowers drawn on your nails, have your hair braided in tiny tresses or get an instant tatoo of dragonfly or your favouriite team logo - Get massage on the beach - Eat ice-cream or pop-corn on the beach - Water slide all day long with the kids - Watch the sun-set, sleep on the beach with your darling and then watch the sun-rise in the morning or... - Sleep all day long in your cosy hotel room, watch favorite TV channels, and make love Traditions, food & drink: - Watch fire-dancers spectacles (nestinarstvo): in Tsarevo (near Strandzha Mountain), Varvara, Rezovo and Bulgari Village - Listen to Bulgarian music ( Balkandji Formation, Bulgare Dance Group, Neshka Robeva Ensemble) - Go to traditional Bulgarian Mehana: - Drink menta + sprite to refresh, drink Bulgarian beer to cool down and drink 60° rakia to get hot - Try tarator, shopska salad, sarmi, gyuvetch, pumpkins with yoghurt, banitsa, kiufte + kebaptche and don’t forget - zelev sok (sauerkraut juice) or airyan for hangover Night Life: - Go to karaoke bar and sing till closing time - Go to casino and double or triple your spending money for the holiday - Organize a massive beach bar party - Try to visit all bars in the resort - Go to a peep show… and get ready for action - Get lost in bars for a couple of nights in a row: not on purpose, of course The little crazy things in life: - Go to a nudist camping site – camping Smokinya and Gradina, near Sozopol; Arapya, near Tsarevo; Irakli in Northern Bulgaria - Rent-a-car and drive for a week or two from the Northest to the Southest point of the Bulgarian Black seaside: beware of seductive hitch-hikers - Go parachuting over the sea in Sunny Beach: be the only bird in the skies, dressed in a swimming suite - Organize party with masks on a luxury boat – play "guess who is who" game - Try water melon filled with mastic brandy (from Bulgarian recipe): use squirt to insert the brandy in the fruit. It really tastes gorgeous! Forget about shots and consume it freezing cold - Sun Burn and smear your skin with yoghurt: again a recipe, that works…almost - Learn Bulgarian, or at least some very needed words and phrases like: "blagodarya" (Thank you), "molya" (please), "izvinete" (exscuse me), "nazdrave" (cheers), "oshte edna bira, molya" (another beer, please), "mnogo si krasiva" (you are very beautiful) and "obicham Balgariya" (I love Bulgaria) - Take crazy photos with crazy people from all over and remember this summer forever:)
